Nelson Tasman Hospice cares for over 160 patients at any one time in this region - all provided free of charge. Our holistic care for patients with life-limiting conditions also extends to their families.
The need for palliative care in the community is growing and our new build on Suffolk Road, Stoke will be a community asset for generations. We need a new facility as we have been asked to move from our current site in Manuka Street due to the expansion of the private hospital.
The new building includes 10 patient units, each with their own garden courtyard, day-stay rooms, space for families to spend time together, education rooms, office space and storage for hospice equipment thatís used in the community. A four bedroom flat is being built onsite for families from out of Nelson to stay while their family member is in care. The landscaping on the 1.4ha section will make for a beautiful environment. Thereís no Government funding for the new build. Prudent financial planning has enabled us to buy the land and put an additional $7.5 million into the project. While the public has generously given $2 million to date, we still need to fundraise another $2 million for the building. Our yearly operational costs are partly funded by the DHB but we have a shortfall of over $1 million a year that we have to raise through fundraising. We can only provide this level of service because of our dedicated staff and over 450 amazing volunteers.
We are thrilled that Dancing For A Cause is supporting our service.
