Paul Hampton is the driving force behind Victory Boxing - a community gym making a huge impact and positive difference to the lives of Nelson’s youth. Now in its 5th successful year, Victory Boxing welcomes 100’s of kids to participate in the youth programme each year, who benefit from a fitness programme underpinned by core values of respect, responsibility, determination and caring.
Paul is well known and respected by the Nelson community, which is evident by the number of awards Paul and Victory Boxing have won. In 2014 Paul was honoured to receive the Nelsonian of the Year Award and most recently he was extremely proud and humbled to be awarded a Kiwibank Local Hero Award.
Paul grew up in Motueka and after studying teaching in Wellington, returned to his home region to teach at Waimea Intermediate and then at Victory Primary School. He is passionate about providing local kids with the foundation and opportunities they need to succeed and is proud of what Victory Boxing has achieved to date.
He is excited, albeit slightly nervous, about “Dancing with the Stars” in Nelson but was keen to offer his support to the Nelson Tasman Hospice which does a lot of amazing work for the community.
“We are always encouraging the kids at Victory Boxing to challenge themselves, and to get out of their comfort zone,” says Paul. “This is an opportunity for me to not only talk the talk, but walk the walk (or should that be waltz the waltz)!”
